To be a role model sounds very obvious, but it is not at all. There are various theories and great evidence that show that people learn their behavior from role models. Although most of the leaders I have met so far are aware of this fact, they behave completely different in everyday life.
What about you? Answer these questions to find out:
- On a scale from 1 to 10, where 10 means that you are a role model all the time and 1 stands for the complete opposite. Where are you standing right now?
- What are you doing to be a role model for your employees?
- How do your employees realize that you are their role model?
- Where do you want to be on the above scale in the future? And what do you have to do to get there?
- Ask your employees where they see you as a role model on the above scale.
